Recovery Month 2018

The theme for Recovery Month 2018 is Join the Voices for Recovery: Invest in Health, Home, Purpose, and Community.

The 2018 theme explores how integrated care, a strong community, sense of purpose, and leadership contributes to effective treatments that sustain the recovery of persons with mental and substance use disorders.

Review the personal stories, like the one following, of people recovering from mental and/or substance use disorders.

My Recovery

I am a 58 year old woman who was first diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder in 1983. I have been hospitalized several times with the last being in 1997. I have received ETC treatments two different times and I believe those treatments really helped.  I am on disability but do volunteer work in a hospital gift shop and at my church. I had one of the best psychiatrist in my area up until a few years ago when he retired. I am now seeing a nurse practitioner who I just love. I would not be as stable as I am today without my loving family and a great medical team My life has had its ups and downs but then whose hasn’t?  I try to talk about my illness to help others and that is the reason for my story.
